Photographing a birth is special. It’s truly an amazing experience. I am in awe of Danielle, especially because her husband is deployed. We got to spend a lot of time together and she is such a great person and wonderful mom!
At 6:00 PM, I received a text from Danielle that her labor had started and she would be going to the hospital that night and she put her three sons to bed. I arrived at 11:30 PM at midnight. Around midnight the triage nurse sent Danielle to walk the halls for two hours. I walked with her and got to know her very well. and her husband met in third grade and started dating in eighth grade. I later joked that with three brothers, Audrey would be waiting a long time to date, but she said, nope we starting dating young, so that won’t happen to her!
The labor and delivery nurses at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring rock my world. They are true heroes and what an amazing job they have helping mothers deliver babies everyday! At four AM we got to her labor and delivery room. Audrey was hiding from heart monitor, and they were so patient. The nurse who spent the most time with Danielle, Pauletta was awesome. She brought apple and cranberry juice because she said they were best mixed together.
Danielle was able to Skype with her husband throughout her labor and he got to see his newborn daughter soon after her birth at 4:32 PM. Thank goodness for technology!
One of the most important photo shoots I’ve ever done and been honored to be apart of. I am truly passionate about birth photography. I hope that I can offer Birth Photography to military families in the Washington, DC, area, in the future.
Danielle, thank you so much for welcoming me to be a part of Audrey’s birth!
Stay tuned tomorrow I’ll share Audrey’s First 48 session when her three older brothers and Grandmother came to the hospital to meet her.
