“We had a baby! And then we named her Audrey!”

The day after Audrey’s birth I drove back to the hospital to photograph a big event. Audrey’s three big brothers, Mac, Logan and Sloan, and her grandmother came to meet her. To say the boys were excited is an understatement. But what really got me is what pros they were with their little sister. They were so gentle and sweet.

Mac is 6 and in kindergarten. He was amazing at holding her. He was also really excited about the presents they each got their sister. One presents was Sophie the giraffe and he read his brother Logan the pamphlet the came with Sophie. I had no idea she is from Paris.

Little Logan would say goodnight to his sister when she was still in mom’s belly. He was really excited to meet her. He explained to me how it all happened with great enthusiasm, “We had a baby!” JUMP! “Then we named her Audrey!” JUMP! I had to laugh to myself (on the inside) because I knew his parents’ picked the name 10 years before. His excitement and happiness for his new sister Audrey just couldn’t be contained.

19-month-old Sloan was a hoot. He was very curious about Audrey. He also knew to be gentle and where to kiss her. Still just a baby himself, the real test came when Sloan picked up her pacifier. Whose was it? He tried it out, but gave it back. Siblinghood is all about sharing, right?

It was so much fun photographing this First 48 Session at Holy Cross Hospital! Big kids meeting and reacting to their new sibling is such a special moment in a family’s life together. It was truly wonderful to photograph this for Danielle and her family.
