Sophie was STOKED to become a BIG sister of a LITTLE sister. She couldn’t wait to meet and hold Evie. She couldn’t wait to tell all of her friends how cute her little sister was. She was READY! Right away she was sweet and caring.
Alex was a little more apprehensive. He wasn’t quite sure what his family was getting into. He liked his sister but really, he was more interested in the hospital’s delicious broccoli (not kidding, he loves broccoli). He was a little scared and didn’t want to hold her. When I came over two weeks later, he was feeling more confident and ready to hold her for a little bit.
Documenting kids meeting their siblings gets me all emotional. You never know how they are going to feel and what their interest level will be. They always bring something to the table that I’m not expecting.
I really loved observing Alex figuring out his new role as a big brother. I could tell that he was processing a lot in his 4-year-old brain. But what I was not expecting his reaction when he watched the slideshow. Alex cried. His mom held him tight and gave him lots of kisses. It is was one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever seen.
